The cloud has pervaded our every day and changed the way that businesses – knowingly or not – operate. On the one hand some businesses have accepted the cloud with open arms and embedded it into nearly every aspect of their operations, while others are still looking to make their first strategic move to the cloud and are considering their options. To those businesses looking to make their first move, I would say this: Chances are you are already using the cloud at work – or your employees are – through applications such as Gmail, Dropbox, or Google Drive.
However you look at it, the cloud is here to stay due to the enormous advantages it has for society and business. From the ability to access your data anywhere, to scalability advantages, to the benefit of not investing and maintaining your own hardware, the cloud is a cost effective solution which businesses the world over should harness.
As a business, Deputy exists to simplify operations for other businesses, small or large. True to this, we wanted to provide you with a list of five cloud-based solutions which can help streamline your business, lower your overheads or improve your team performance.
You’ve sat down and brainstormed ideas on how to take the business forward or how to get more customers into the shop, but now everyone needs to do their part.
Cue Trello. Trello is an online collaboration tool cum workflow platform that allows you to organize projects into various components – called boards. Every board you create allows you to list an element of the project that needs to be done and from there to add due dates, project owners, check lists, files and more. Invite others in, monitor progress and see just how far your project is advancing in real time. The beauty is, you can track progress and through that infer or at the least monitor, employee performance.
Xero’s tagline is beautiful accounting software and it lives up to it’s promise. Designed with personal and small to medium business accounting in mind, Xero has made it possible for anyone to do the books easily and efficiently.
From the ability to import your bank statements automatically, to real-time collaboration, to the ability to invoice with a few simple mouse clicks, Xero has become a yard-stick to many other accounting applications. Oh and the fact that it too (like many others mind you) can integrate with Deputy to streamline and integrate timesheet data to payroll tasks is another huge bonus! It also has a passionate community that acts as powerful brand advocates.
Designed to help you remember notes, ideas, photo’s you’ve taken or even webpage screenshots, Evernote takes the concept of the 3M sticky to the next level. With the ability to manage your notes across your various web-enabled devices – everything synchs automatically – you will always have the information you need at your fingertips.
No list of cloud products would be complete if it didn’t include the Google suite of products. With Google you can now host your email – and take advantage of their spam and virus filters – and get access to a range of business productivity tools such as spreadsheets, presentations and documents.
As they are all hosted in the cloud the ability to work on your document from anywhere is possible. Plus, you can invite others in to share/edit your work and can see a history of who has made what changes. Pretty cool really.
It would be remiss of us to not include Deputy on this list. Not because of hubris, but because feedback from our Deputy customers is that we revolutionise the way business are working and because our solution is redefining how managers and owners think about managing their staff. Not only are we providing a robust employee management solution which makes staff schedules possible, facilitate better communications and manage timesheet data, but we are providing technology to businesses of all sizes and shapes, irrespective of the number of employees they have. Plus we are free.
If you have other tools which you use and which you think others should know about, tell us below, we would love to hear from you. We are sure there are plenty of them, so feel free to share.
