I am excited to announce that tomorrow, Deputy will launch a brand new Schedule interface for the web, which comes with some very cool new features. We will deliver you a fantastic new, easy way to create schedules, without taking away any of the functionality or data you are used to.

Why change?

Deputy is built on 5 key elements – Scheduling, Time, Communication, Tasks, and Productivity. These are the five prongs of the Deputy badge. Of these, Scheduling is where it all starts. It’s step one for most new Deputy customers, and it’s the first thing you need to do to start a new week (or fortnight, or month) of work.

Essentially, scheduling means putting the most suitable employees together in the right place at the correct time. For the last six months, we have been thinking about how we can help you achieve this in the simplest, most intuitive way possible. We are excited about what we have designed and built, and as good as it is, it is only the foundation for more revolutionary changes over the next 12 months.

When you get your hands on your new Deputy, the first thing you’ll notice is that you can now see and search all your employees on the left side of the schedule. Everything you need is all in the one place!

The right side is the same old schedule you are used to…or is it? You’ll discover we’ve sprinkled some very handy improvements throughout. Read on to find out more!

What’s New

 

Employee Details

You can see employees qualifications and other details within that left side list. You can make all their shifts open (if they have resigned, for example), rather than going through all their shifts one at a time.

Drag and Drop 

You can swap shifts between two people by dragging one shift onto the other. Deputy will tell you what the cost implications are, and you can confirm the swap.

You can also drag employees from the List onto the Schedule to create a shift.

Teaser – there are some incredible new shift trading features following hot on the heels of this release.

 

Copy Schedules

Another feature we’ll give you to make scheduling so much easier is the ability to copy and import schedules. You can copy anywhere from a week to six months worth of schedules to a future period, or import a block of schedules. It’s all under the new ‘Copy Shifts’ button.

Shift Offers

You can now simply click on a shift to send offers to selected employees – which is often much handier than creating an Open Shift which anyone can take.

Daily and weekly totals 

These totals can now be shown by clicking on ‘Stats’

These are the main scheduling changes. But there’s more. Other new features include:

  • SMS shift notifications will now be elegantly presented in a single message (for most carriers, Sprint being the notable exception)
  • 24-hour time format is supported
  • You can now create detailed location notes and these will be included in notifications when you publish
  • Deputy will now support full-time salaried employees

There are a number of other improvements in this release, and in other releases following in the next few weeks, but I think this covers the main points, and it’s probably enough to digest right now.
