We know that managing leave can be a particularly onerous and complicated task for managers, who are left to wade through accrual calculations and manual tracking sheets, while employees are often left without visibility of the leave they are entitled to and whether they have enough leave to request time off.
This is why we’re so excited to introduce you to the new and improved way to manage leave with Deputy.

Configuring leave types and entitlements
One of the most challenging aspects of managing employee leave is keeping track of multiple leave types that are calculated in different ways, so we’ve made it really easy to create the leave types you need for your business in just 2 simple steps.
Step 1: Create a leave type
Create the specific types of leave that work for your business (or edit your existing default leave types), including details such as whether it’s paid or unpaid, viewed in hours or days and when (if at all) it should reset.
Step 2: Specify your accrual or deduction conditions
To calculate leave balances in a way that makes sense for your business, we’ve introduced the option to set up leave types to accrue at a set rate or simply deduct from a total allocated balance.
With just two steps, you can easily create a Holiday Entitlement that will accrue leave at a pro-rata rate per hour worked, or a holiday entitlement that deducts from a finite number of allocated days as leave is taken throughout the year.
You could even set up paid Study Leave for all your casual employees, accruing at one hour for every thirty hours worked. Or you could give a full-time employee four days of paid Puppy Leave when they get a new pet. The options are endless!

Allocating leave types to employees
In Deputy, employees can accrue leave and request leave for any leave type that has been assigned to them. Leave types can be assigned to employees individually, or to a group of employees.
If you are assigning a new type of leave to an individual, for example a new starter, you can do this easily within the employee profile (find out more on how to do that here).
To add a leave type to a group of employees at the same time, you can do so easily in Deputy as a bulk action. This means that the first time you’re setting up leave for your team, or if you ever need to add a new leave type that applies to a group of employees, you can do so quickly and easily, without needing to go through one by one (see more on how to do that here).
Managing leave from a centralised hub
It’s a lot easier to make the right decisions when you have all the information you need clearly in front of you, right? That’s why we’ve built the brand new leave dashboard that brings everything you need to know about your team’s leave into one, central location.
In the Leave Management dashboard, you’ll have a clear table view of all of your employees, where you will be able to see their total Leave Balance – the leave balance that they have at that specific point in time, their Approved Leave – the leave that has been approved in the future, and the Leave Remaining – which is an overview of the leave that employees have left after their leave requests have been approved.
Through a number of sort and filter options, managers can quickly and easily pull together snapshots of important leave information, grouping employees by their type of entitlement, and then check who’s running low (or high) on leave balances so there’s no surprises at the busiest times of the year.
