Looking to catch up on everything new in Deputy from the last few months? You’re in the right place. We’ll be sharing these roundups a few times a year, so make sure you’re subscribed to our newsletter at the bottom of this page. If you’d like to see more regular updates about what’s new in Deputy, make sure to open and bookmark our updates page here

Our favourite release this month: Shift Pulse+

Keeping your team engaged at work is an important part of running a healthy business, but it’s not always easy to find time to consistently check in and understand how they’re doing. We first launched Shift Pulse to give business owners and managers an efficient and data driven way to understand employee sentiment, through giving employees the opportunity to share their feedback on a static scale at the end of each shift.

With Shift Pulse+, which is part of the Deputy HR suite, we’ve given this feature some nifty upgrades with enhanced engagement capabilities, and deeper insights into employee sentiment and wellbeing. These include the ability to:

  • Customise questions, to tailor language specific to your business needs

  • Select the frequency of which you want the Shift Pulse to trigger (daily, fortnightly, monthly, or at the end of every shift).

  • Choose your own rating system, including the emoji’s that sit alongside each rating

  • Enable location-specific configurations, to ensure you’re targeting the right employees.

Find out more about Shift Pulse+ here.

If you’re not currently using Deputy HR, you can still continue to use the basic Shift Pulse to check in on your team (and you can learn more about setting that up here).

What else is new?

An easier way to navigate the Deputy marketplace

In our integration marketplace, it’s now even easier to connect products and create the data flows you need with Deputy. Using new tags to highlight which integrations have been built by Deputy, and which have been built by a third-party vendor, you’ll always have a clear idea of how to get support for that connection. Plus we’ve made it easier to search for thousands of different platforms that can be connected through Zapier, with a new ‘Zapier’ tag.

A brand new location setting to enforce training requirements

If you’re already using our training requirements feature, you’ll like this update. When an employee clocks into an unscheduled shift you can now choose whether you want to check for training requirements for that employee to work in that area, through a new option in our location settings. More flexibility when creating your leave policies

To enable you to better track leave with Deputy without leave balances unnecessarily going into negative balances, you can now create a leave policy that does not deduct from the total when leave is taken.

Choose when you want to allocate night shift hours

If you’re managing overnight shift workers, this one's for you! You can now set where you want to allocate hours and costs from the shift, either from the start of the shift, or from midnight. This means you can now better track the hours and cost allocation in your preferred way, giving you reporting and insights that make sense for your business. Learn more.

Improved search in the people page

Find the employees you’re looking for more easily from our people tab, with our new ‘search’ and ‘clear’ buttons.

Coming soon…

Set up automatic updates to required staff when forecasts change

Get ready to free up a bit more of the mental load, as soon you’ll be able to set up your required staff to auto-update as your demand forecasts change. This means you won’t need to remember to run your labor model when things change, Deputy will do this for you! Learn more about what’s coming here.

Did you know:

It’s now easier than ever to export your timesheets to your payroll provider

If you’re currently using our custom payroll export tool to send your timesheet and pay details into your payroll software, now you can add:

  • Custom rows (like a data header), which could be helpful if you need to add a version number at the top of the file.

  • Delimiters for combined data fields, which can help define how column header names are combined when required for export (say if you require to have the combined column name with a colon in the middle).

  • Conditional column formatting, which can transform data on export automatically. This can be helpful if you have a payroll system that requires an employee’s payroll code to be their location name plus a number.

You can learn more about our custom payroll exporter, and how to get set up here.
