The Missing Piece: We got ourselves the ‘Karen’

Over the past year, we have experienced a rapid growth in the number of amazing customers that have joined Deputy, which has been matched by an equally exciting period of growth as a company.

This year alone we have been busy rounding out our world class executive team, through appointing a number of renowned heavy hitters that are all leaders in their fields, including: Steven Power as Global President, Mellissa Santos as Chief People Officer, Klaas Raaijmakers as Chief Product Officer, Christopher Logan as VP of Engineering, Francois Bondiguel as Head of Growth, and John Kearney and David Kelly as General Managers for the APAC and EMEA regions respectively.

As we continue on this journey of growth, it’s more important than ever that we’re working with a diverse team of the best and brightest across every aspect of the business, particularly at the board level.

With that said, today I am excited  to share some fantastic news – Karen Appleton Page will be joining our board as our fifth member.

For the past year our board has comprised of only four members, which is less than the usual five for companies of our size. As CEO and Co-Founder of Deputy, I knew there was no way we were prepared to compromise on anyone less than incredible to oversee and advise on the future and direction of Deputy.

Karen joins the board of Deputy with a wealth of expertise gleaned from her time working with amazing companies, including her time at Apple with the Enterprise Go-To-Market team leading the commercial channel and strategic partners, as well as being one of the founding executives at Box, where she critically defined Box’s approach to partnerships and business development, which saw the company grow from humble beginnings in 2005, to today working with 85, 000 businesses and 41 million users.

The real reason I knew that Karen was the right person for Deputy however, is that her passion for improving people’s lives aligns clearly with the Deputy ethos – to do whatever we can to improve the lives of millions of shift workers and their employers globally. As an active member of a number of global charities, including Ashton Kutcher’s THORN, I know that Karen will be able to share the deep care and understanding for our customer’s needs that inform every decision we make here at Deputy.

Aaron Levie, Co-Founder and CEO of Box, once said that every company fundamentally needs ‘A Karen’, by which he means somebody that is nothing short of a guru when it comes to leveraging partnerships and deploying strategic marketing activities to guarantee product success and business growth.

And we don’t just have ‘_a_ Karen’ we have ‘_THE_ Karen’.
