Solving the Single Direction Problem

Successful companies want all of their staff to have a single purpose, and to be aligned to the core strategy.

The one constant in business is the elusive challenge of bringing a disparate group of people together to achieve a common goal. Within this lies the challenges of:

  • Aligning everybody to the vision.
  • Making sure the right people are are in the right roles doing the right things.
  • Maintaining the energy and momentum to fulfill that vision via a strong and positive culture
  • Being able to deeply understand, measure and refine the productivity as a company evolves and grows.
  • These are productivity issues facing business no matter what stage they are at, nor their size. Furthermore, there have been numerous management theories developed and systems designed to try and help resolve these problems.

Companies invest a ton of resources in team building, securing growth, performance management and talent management systems, people and culture development, and processes to achieve better communication and alignment.

The pervasive assumption is that centralised workforces have the physical ability to get staff together and on the same page. However, what happens when there cannot be a physical connection and companies are not centralised?

At Deputy we are a major advocate of the Rockefeller Habits to align our company, refine and manage our culture and maintain a rhythm of communication. More importantly the assumption has been that teams can be physically present, can attend huddles and short meetings and stay physically connected.

The reality is that increasingly people are not in centralised workforces. They are scattered around different locations. They are mobile, in fast moving industries with fast moving lives. Mobile devices and social networks have solved those problems in our personal lives. It is normal to have an instant sharing of experience or insight irrespective of where we and our social communities are.

But in business this has yet to happen. We still rely on the assumptions of physical presence and physical means of interaction. This makes no sense particularly when we have a level of connectivity, devices, and social constructs to create an environment without the requirement for physical presence.

To test this assumption is very simple – In your work world are you successfully and consistently addressing the four bullet points above? If not then ultimately you do not have the optimal level of communication and engagement occurring between your employers and your employees.

At Deputy we truly believe we can improve the work world. Using the ubiquitous nature of the cloud, the high availability of networks and smart devices, and the wide acceptance of instant connection via a smart application we firmly believe we can allow any decentralised organisation to successfully address that elusive challenge of bringing a disparate group of people together to achieve a common goal.

But don’t just take our word for it. Create yourself a free account and integrate it into your business. We are confident that you will find that it not only streamlines your business, but that you will wonder how you ever went without it.
