Unavailabilities made easy
One of the worst things to hear as a scheduling manager is “Oh no, I can’t work today.” So if you’re not already enabling your team to manage their own availabilities, you’re setting yourself up for a world of hurt.
Balancing work around life commitments is challenging for both staff and managers. But with Deputy’s latest round of improvements, it’s even faster and easier for your team to manage unavailabilities that stretch beyond a single day.
- Multi-day unavailability. For example, that two week holiday to a remote beach to sip mai tais.
- Recurring unavailabilities. Set holds that recur for weekly, bi-weekly, every 4 weeks, or monthly. For example, that Monday night basketball game you keep telling your friends that you’ll make it “next time.”
- Recurring unavailability end date. Perfect for when your staff has class every Tuesday between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, but wants to pick up shifts on breaks.
- Complex monthly recurring unavailabilities. Sometimes unavailability isn’t straightforward. For example, if someone is unavailable on the 15th of every month or the first Monday of each month.
Customers who enable staff unavailability management save an average of one hour of admin time every week, according to Deputy data.
And that doesn’t even include the amount of time or stress their staff are saving by knowing that within seconds they can have their manager know exactly when they can and can’t work on any given week.
Leave Requests & Approval wherever you are
It’s been a few years since I last ran a restaurant, but I vividly recall the pain of managing leave requests and unavailabilities on bits of paper.
With everyone on their phones a little bit more than we’d like, it’s time to put the power to manage leave in the palm of your hand.
Deputy’s smart leave management system allows employees to independently request time off. They simply log in to the Deputy App, check their leave balance, and submit a request to their manager – who will get an instant notification. Managers can then open the iOS App to approve leave requests, making the scheduling process much faster with clear & reliable staff availability.
The result? Businesses using this feature during the Beta trial saw a reduction in the delay between submitted leave requests and approval (or rejection) from an average of 12 days to 3 days.

Block Leave requests when you know you’re about to have a big day
