New Android release: Shift Swap now, more to come.

Hi! My name is Louis Demay, I moved to Sydney from Paris to join the Deputy Android team 6 months ago. Our mission is to make the Deputy Android App a truly awesome experience.

To be honest, Deputy’s Android App has not received the attention it should have in the past, and you, our customers, have let us know we could do better. Well, we heard you! You want to Swap Shifts and access administration features on your beloved Android device. Us too. And we have been working hard to bring you these powerful features.

I’m proud to say that Shift Swap* has been released today!

No need to check your emails to accept a Shift Swap, and no need to go to the website to send Swap requests!

It’s very simple, just go to your shift through the “Me” tab, or click on the right notifications and from the Available Shift list, click on the shift. You will notice a new button, “Can’t work”, which will give you two options:

  • Swap Shift, to exchange a shift with one or many other employee’ shifts
  • Offer Shift, to exchange a shift with one or many other employees.

We also made a light graphic update. You will notice that we now have a splash screen, and the left menu background is now white, to match with the Android design guidelines.

On the “Tasks” tab, we redesigned the screen and you have now a brand new “New Task” form with a title, a due date, the user assignation and the task’s message.
In “Leave”, you can now notify multiple managers, and see why your Leave have been approved or declined.

That’s not all, the Deputy Android notifications bring you to the right part of the app when you click on it for a much simpler workflow. We respect your device battery! Except for important notifications, we won’t wake up your device.

Another thing we care about are our talkative users, you can now leave longer messages in News Feed comments.

For managers, we’ve updated Intercom! You can now quickly see the unread messages number from the left menu anytime. The UI also changed for a lighter one. Add new employees to your workplace from your contacts is now more efficient.

Under the hood, we updated our network library to Square OkHttp, the network is a bit faster and more reliable now!

Tell us what you think by leaving a comment below, we really appreciate your feedback.

In the meantime, I’ll be hard at work to ensure that administration features like viewing and creating schedules are delivered very soon.

*Only available if enabled by your workplace
