Like front of house staff, floor staff don’t need a specific qualification, but those who want a life long career in hospitality often obtain qualifications in hospitality, such as a Certificate III in Hospitality (Restaurant Front of House).
But if you’re serving alcohol your floor staff may need a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Certificate. Different states have different legislative requirements, so it’s important to check the relevant RSA laws in your state.
What qualifications do bar staff need?
In order to work as a bartender, your employee may need an RSA. The RSA training program teaches people about the responsible service of alcohol. While the RSA is mandated by the Federal Government every state has their own policies, so it’s important to check in your state what the exact requirements are.
It’s worth noting all employees in the hospitality sector, including managers, bartenders, glass collectors, room service and floor staff have thirty days after starting their job, to get their RSA certificate. This certificate will last three years before needing to be renewed.
